Swerve is an iPhone app for finding a car: it shows you cars for sale at dealers near you and tells you whether each price is a good deal. Swerve is made by Workman Trading Company ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect when you use Swerve, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
The short version. We collect what we need to run the app, to understand how it's used, and to pay for it with ads and subscriptions. We don't sell your personal information. We only use your device's advertising identifier if you allow tracking when iPhone asks. You can delete your account and its data from inside the app at any time.
What we collect
If you create an account
- Your email address, or your Sign in with Apple details (Apple may give us a private relay email instead of your real one, and your name if you choose to share it).
- The name you give in the app, if any.
Your car search
- What you tell Swerve about the car you want: budget, body styles, makes, must-have features, new or used, how far you'll travel, and your ZIP code.
- Your Garage: the cars you save, notes and folders you add, price-drop alerts you turn on, and a summary of your saved cars (how many, their price range, top makes and body styles).
- Saved searches and match alerts.
- If you add a car you own under My car: its VIN, year, make, model, trim, mileage and ZIP code, so we can estimate its value and check for recalls.
While you're signed out, your search and Garage stay on your phone. Signing in syncs them to your account.
Location
If you allow it, Swerve uses your phone's location once, while you're using the app, to find your ZIP code and the cars near you. We keep the ZIP code, not a history of where you've been. Swerve doesn't use location in the background. You can type a ZIP code instead.
How you use the app
We record what happens in the app: the screens you open, cars you save or pass on, which sponsored cards you see and for how long, whether you open the Swerve Plus page and what you choose there, and when you install and open the app. Along with it come your device model, iOS version, app version, language and approximate region (from your IP address), and crash and error reports. If you're signed in, this is linked to your account.
Purchases
Subscriptions go through Apple. We receive the plan you bought, its price, its dates and its status (for example a trial, renewal or cancellation). We never see your card or Apple account details.
Device identifiers
- An app-specific identifier for your installation, and the identifier Apple gives us for your device (IDFV).
- Your device's advertising identifier (IDFA), only if you allow tracking when iPhone asks. You can change this any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
- A push notification token, if you turn on notifications.
How we use it
- To run Swerve: show cars near you, rate deals, keep your Garage in sync, and send the alerts you ask for.
- To personalize what you see, based on your search and the cars you've saved.
- To manage Swerve Plus and confirm what you've paid for.
- To understand how Swerve is used, fix problems, and decide what to improve, including testing changes such as how often sponsored cards appear.
- To show ads to people without Swerve Plus, and to measure how our own advertising performs, such as which ad led to an install.
- To keep Swerve secure, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.
Who we share it with
We share information with companies that run parts of Swerve for us. They may only use it to provide their service to us, except where noted.
| Company | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, accounts and servers | Account, search, Garage and My car data |
| PostHog | Product analytics and crash reports | Usage, device and crash data, your account ID and email |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management | Purchase details, your account ID, device identifiers |
| Apple | Payments, Sign in with Apple, notifications | Purchases, sign-in, push tokens |
| Expo | App updates and notification delivery | Push tokens, device and app version |
| Google AdMob | The sponsored cards free users see | Device identifiers, approximate location from your IP address, ad views and taps. Ads are personalized only if you allow tracking. Google uses this under its own privacy policy. |
| Meta (Facebook and Instagram) | Measuring our ads on Meta | Installs and app opens, and a few in-app actions (finishing setup, creating an account, saving a car, viewing Swerve Plus, subscribing, and ad revenue), with device identifiers. Meta uses this under its own policies. |
| Vehicle data providers | Car listings, prices and recall data | Search details such as location and filters, and a VIN for recall checks. Not your name or email. |
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect people's rights and safety, or as part of a merger or sale of our business (you'd be told before your information became subject to a different policy).
We don't sell your personal information. Dealers don't receive your details from Swerve; if you contact a dealer, you do it through their own website or phone number.
Tracking and ads
"Tracking" means linking what you do in Swerve with information from other companies' apps and websites for advertising. Swerve only does this if you choose Allow when iPhone asks. If you choose Ask App Not to Track, AdMob shows ads that aren't based on your activity, and Meta and RevenueCat don't receive your advertising identifier. Swerve Plus removes ads.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data while you have an account. When you delete your account, we delete it from our database straight away, including your Garage, searches, alerts, My car and notification tokens. Copies in backups are removed as backups expire. Analytics and purchase records held by the companies above are kept under their retention periods; we can ask them to delete records linked to you if you ask us to. We keep records we're legally required to keep, such as purchase records, for as long as the law requires.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account in the app: Account › Settings › Delete account. You can also request deletion on our site or email us.
- See, correct or get a copy of your information by emailing us.
- Location, notifications and tracking can be turned off in your iPhone's Settings at any time.
- Ads go away with Swerve Plus.
Depending on where you live (for example California, Virginia, Colorado or the EU and UK), you may have legal rights to access, correct, delete or move your information, to object to some uses, and to opt out of targeted advertising. Under California law, sharing information with ad companies for targeted ads can count as "sharing" even without payment. You can opt out by choosing Ask App Not to Track, or by emailing us. We won't treat you differently for using these rights. We'll respond within the time the law allows and may need to confirm it's you first.
Children
Swerve is for adults shopping for a car. It isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Security
Information is encrypted in transit, and access to our systems is limited to the people and services that need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects you as the law requires.
Where your information is processed
Swerve is run from the United States, and the companies above may process information in the United States and other countries.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll tell you in the app before it applies.
